“We Are Not a Cult”

Definitely not a cult

CMA aren’t afraid of bringing up the c-word.

“There are many many many many people on the planet that claim all kinds of things, but as I said … none of them can verify and prove what they say and do … we don’t parade around looking for publicity. And we are not a money driven organization looking for empires. And we’re not looking to control people’s lives or to create a cult …”

MJD, 21 Mar 2020 teleseminar

MJD raising the subject of cults and money himself seems to me a “controlling the narrative” or a confidence trick. By acknowledging those issues without prompting, he bonds sympathetically with any doubters in the audience. When he then dismisses the ideas by presenting his reasons why those doubts are unfounded, many in the audience will be on his side: “OK he just said it’s not a cult, I guess not then since he’s directly saying it’s not. Maybe this really is legit.”

“We are not a religion, we are not a cult. We have nothing really esoteric. We’re very practical. You’re sick, we’re gonna heal you … through the grace of John Douglas, Master John Douglas and the Master Angels.”

Hartnett, 28 Mar 2020 teleseminar

That clip couldn’t be more inaccurate. Nothing esoteric? CMA/MJD have obscure terminology coming out their eyeballs. MJD frequently claims to be in possession of secret, protected knowledge and runs the Elite course to teach it.

“I came up with the name Supreme Grand Master John Douglas. We live on a road that has those initials on it … this is not some cult thing … John is the humblest person I know.

He is the perfect person for this karmic mitigation for the world because he takes no credit, yet I’ve seen him do things no-one else on the planet can do.”

Hartnett, 28 Mar 2020 teleseminar

“Supreme Grand Master John Douglas”; a road with the initials on; a spirtual head who talks to angels and uses them to kill viruses; a church formed in his honor; tiers of devotees; endless praise and reverence. Need I go on. Hartnett should ask himself the right questions: who here among us behaves like a cult leader? And to whom is that cult leader dedicated?

Definitely not a cult (2017)
Definitely not a cult (2018)

Questioning Credibility: it’s worth going through the “20 Questions to Evaluate the Validity of a Group or Leader” on Janja Lalich’s site http://cultresearch.org/help/questioning-credibility – CMA/MJD do not score highly.

The humble Supreme Grand Master John Douglas in his gilded chapel (2019)

Hartnett, 28 March 2020 teleseminar

“… We have secret knowledge. John’s told us that from the very beginning. We don’t broadcast what we do. We don’t even advertise. We go on Facebook or maybe Instagram and tell people there’s an opportunity to get healed. We could market this, we have great marketing talent, we got great legal talent, we’ve got people that have been healed from every type of disease you can possibly think of and they’re willing to help.

But we wanna grow organically, we don’t want quantity, we want quality. If this isn’t for you then it’s not for you, God bless you we’ll do whatever we can to help you.

But there’s a new sheriff in town, there’s a whole new paradigm in town.

Now there’s no reason for people to be sick, in pain… I’ve had every disease you can think of… I’ve spent the last 30 years practically in bed…

Notice how Hartnett cultivates exclusivity of being in CMA. This makes those introduced to CMA feel immediately special and more willing to stay around. A selected group of people, chosen, filtered and worked by existing devotees. This contrasts with MJD’s preceding “spiritual masters” such as Jesus who preached for all people, with no paygate or “great legal talent.” What kind of Church to benefit humanity says “If this isn’t for you then it’s not for you”? What happened to “one truth can destroy a million untruths”?

Hartnett, obsessed with being global, invented a Church built on the insane claims of a narcissist “faith healer” for the purpose of becoming a self-sufficient “multi-billion dollar company”:

Hartnett, clip from internal CMA conference call 2019

“… in order to make this group work self-sufficiently, we had to do a test, to show people how they get in the way, to show people how they react, to show people how they are obstructing the natural order of this movement becoming a multi-billion dollar company.”

The Powers and Teachings of Master John Douglas

CMA YouTube seminar screenshot, 17 Oct 2019

This is my understanding based on listening to the long sleep-inducing teleseminars (completing one in a single sitting was impossible for me) and other materials CMA have put out.

MJD and Hartnett know what they’re doing: the longer they talk in their seminars, the more casual listeners are filtered out. Hartnett always speaks before MJD. Listeners not completely convinced by Hartnett’s spiel will leave before MJD appears. It means the audience for MJD is more likely to believe what he says, consisting only of people not turned off by MJD’s warmup man. The longer MJD speaks, the more listeners enter a semi-hypnotic, malleable state. Remember Hartnett used to be a magician: he knows how to deceive, direct and mislead an audience.

When MJD finally speaks his listeners are in a state of reverence for him before he’s said anything, that’s what happens when you have preceding hype men and women spending 30mins or more building expectation for the “Supreme Grand Master.”

MJD’s fake philosophy is based on the existence and all-encompassing role of karma. People’s negativity and their negative reactions are the cause of bad situations, he says. How people choose to react to good and bad events decides the course of their lives. Bad things happen to yourself and others if you think bad.

He blames people with bad karma for the misfortunes that befall them, especially illnesses and diseases. For example, if you or a loved one get cancer, it’s because you had negative thoughts in the past. If something bad happens to you, don’t react with “dirty negative emotion” because that will increase your bad karmic debt and will come back to bite you and others in the future. Bad events apparently have a purpose and benefit we mortals are not aware of, this is “cosmic awareness”.

If something good happens to you, he says, it’s because you’ve successfully reduced your past negative karmic debt and the “Master Angels” have decided to bless you. How they decide depends on a mysterious factor called “deservingness”.

If you are able to reduce your karmic debt enough you can start to experience a “spiritual reformation”. This will allow you to understand the “truth of matter”. This means you’ll acquire the ability to break free of the known laws of nature and see with your mind’s eye inside living things at the molecular level, identifying viruses, pathogens and all manner of new contaminants unknown to science.

MJD says he acquired that ability aged 9 through a sudden “complete clairvoyant activation” and now uses it to heal people (and pets) via directing the Master Angels on your behalf.

“Angelic reformation” is asking the Master Angels for help in this process via MJD’s prayer products.

“Subconcious repair” is the process of purifying your subconcious, in order to start a “secondary track of unfolding a new being” by “replacing fear with love”.

It’s all about recognising “divine truth” will destroy “untruths”. Untruths about the known laws of nature taught by unenlightened disbelievers.

“What if what I’m saying is true?” MJD asks doubters as if that’s a reason to believe him.

“What have you got to lose?” asked Hartnett of his followers in 2017.

You’ll never reach MJD’s level of possessing “secret knowledge” if you don’t believe in this philosophy. You must stop thinking with your human brain about the human world and its negativity and doubts and allow yourself to be one with the universe. This means taking what MJD says as the unvarnished truth and ideally accepting without question the effectiveness of his CDs, “advanced courses” and other processes. Whereupon a “superior energy of divine power and bliss” will encompass you and you are elevated beyond your corporeal form into a oneness with the universe.

Of the 600+ people whom he says can verify his teachings, it’s unknown how many have actually acheived this “oneness with the universe” and acquired the same powers he was gifted aged 9.

The “miracles” he’s performed are, he says, the proof of his abilities until science can catch up with him.

Answering the question “What advice do you have for people with severe childhood PTSD?” :

“It is not just the events in your childhood, it is also the way you are structured to react to them later in your life. Quite often we find the actual events are nothing terrible… you are structured to hang onto those and not understand their purpose. …If you are able to have the Elite Development in you, you would see how most of these things are structured in the equation of your incarnation. If you’re able to look with cosmic awareness you would see … many many reasons of benefit for those events. Find the truth of those events and be empowered by them … All of these secrets are revealed through Angelic Reformation and especially Subconscious Repair.”

30 Oct 2020 Teleseminar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvBRk6oNbU4

MJD has zero qualifications for offering advice on any medical matter, nor is he a therapist or councillor suitable for addressing such difficult, complex questions. His answer is basically saying “Your childhood trauma wasn’t so bad it was a good thing. Stop reacting negatively to it. Join my Elite course [$10,000] and you’ll find out why it happened, and buy my CDs [$149 each].” But it’s a very generic question and many people listening will consider it applies to themselves and take on board his answer.

Hartnett agrees with this karmic view. No more so than when he talked about 9/11:

“… There was so much negativity that was building up with the Bush administration or the world or whatever, people were negative. Large groups of negativity create wars … we were blowing up other countries… If you start a war that wasn’t yours to start… This karma in the US it deserves to be here. And as a collective consciousness the US had that karma… We got a phone call from Maharishi [Mahesh Yogi] said “New York is in trouble”, this is on September 10th … you can ring the “Bell of Invincibilty” for New York, find something to clang… and leave New York.”

Hartnett, Superhero of Love podcast 12 Sep 2019 https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-rszit-bf244b

We’re all grateful Hartnett and friends stopped 9/11 by banging a lamp shade with a pen, I’m sure.

Hartnett then goes on a rambling story about Maharishi preventing the staff of Hartnett’s Maharishi Global Development Fund being in the World Trade Center on 9/11 by telling him to relocate the office to New Jersey four months prior. How very considerate his karma took care of his own interests that day.

Hartnett all smiles with some MJD iconography (Undated)

MJD and Hartnett view previous spiritual mentors like Jesus, Buddha and Maharishi as forerunners to himself. They all developed insights into the universe that were incomplete but improved upon by suceeding spiritual masters, until the present day. MJD is presented as the latest such saint, with a more accurate and powerful knowledge than anyone before.

“MJD can help mitigate the karma, he has the ability to pray or negotiate with the Lord of Karma on your behalf. Every great saint was able to do this, they didn’t talk a lot about it but that’s just what they do. And those of us who spend a lot of time with John we watch him do it. And he literally can help take on the karma then once that person is cured, the karma is alleviated…

Hartnett, Superhero of Love podcast 12 Sep 2019

CMA is an all-embracing church open to all faiths because all the other faiths were simply forerunners to MJD’s “advanced powers”. But this means many people listening to his seminars will need to resolve differences with their existing beliefs. E.g. karma is not part of Christian tradition, so what would a Christain make of MJD’s focus on it?

It can be resolved if MJD can persuade the listener he alone is in possession of secret knowledge of a kind more “advanced” than anyone prior had, e.g. Jesus. MJD doesn’t replace Jesus but he is the next stage of human spiritual evolution.

But unlike Jesus and the rest, MJD sells CDs and prayers purporting powerful effects to mitigate negative karma and remove “levels of negative behaviours and gunk”:

“You cannot understand how many levels there are to any sort of behaviour inside you. Often with the people that have been with us for a few years you just take off three levels of negative behaviours and gunk. And the fourth level smells even worse. And then you work through that and the fifth level well no-one can take, smells even worse than that because so much has been purified out of you by reformations the lower levels start to stink really badly because they’re so apparent you don’t have the protective mechanisms anymore … and Subconscious Repair, Soul Elevation, all of the seminars work we do reform people from the inside. “

“Let yourself go down the road to quash your human negativity, your naturally doubting offensive mental capabilities, your belittling and the ego…”

MJD, 30 Oct 2019 teleseminar clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czs87sZcxfE

MJD uses followers’ preexisting common beliefs in supernatural beings to introduce his own “Master Angels” and build his philosophy on top.

Hartnett says “healing facilitators” such as MJD and his Elite graduates get their power from God but “if you don’t believe in God to be honest I really can’t help you at this point”:

“These viruses are killed through frequency… there’s over 400 people graduated from John’s advanced course.. we consider ourselves healing facilitators, all of this comes from God… “

Hartnett, 21 March 2020 teleseminar

Why does he say this? He is admitting no-one could have faith in MJD’s powers or belief in what he says if the receiver doesn’t have a pre-existing faith. I.e. “We can’t convince you to get on board with CMA if you’ve got this far in life without subscribing to some other divine belief system”.

Shifting responsibility to God for healing (or lack of) disavows MJD and CMA of worldly legal blame, at least they hope so. Spent $$$$ on MJD’s products to cure your illness but it didn’t work? Too bad, not their fault.

Where does Hartnett’s “if you don’t believe in God I can’t help you” statement leave MJD’s purported scientific evidence “medically proven in peer reviewed journals”? They can’t have it both ways. His faith-based system can’t be proven with scientific methods no matter how much he and Hartnett say it’s based on (divine) truth with verifiable evidence.

Next is one of the most troubling things I’ve heard MJD say. Here he tells devotees not to measure the effort “in human terms” of following his teachings. I.e. don’t count the financial cost of how much you’re spending on his CDs, prayers, seminars and courses:

“One of the most important things we impart in you is the perseverance of your reformation … perseverance is an agreement to God that you are ready to deserve more and ready to do what it takes and you are not measuring in human terms what the effort is to meditate or use a process or attend a seminar or Elite development course”

MJD, 30 October 2020 teleseminar
MJD seminar 2015 (pre-CMA)

This next clip is MJD talking about “stopping the machine” of intellectual thought to experience oneness and bliss. Then he unexpectedly claims he can read the minds of his audience, which is a power I’ve not heard him mention elsewhere:

“Superior energy of divine power and bliss comes into you when you are surrendered in oneness. That is, when the machine stops. The machine must stop. The intellect must stop … in order for your particles to blend into oneness with the rest of creation.

I could pick anyone of you on the call and see exactly what the state of your liver is … what your conscious mind is thinking. Not maybe, or guessing or speculating, I will see it exactly as it is.

Clip from 30 Oct 2020 teleseminar

Next clip MJD talks about how doubters eventually regret their initial skepticism, because a year later they have transformed so much they’re a completely different, “better” person compared to when they were introduced.

“You can see the scientific peer-reviewed papers, the evidence, if that’s what you need. But it’s a greater reward if you just jump in.

You’ll see how many people who first come to us have all the alarm bells ringing, then after a year or so they regret the way they were when they first came because (cough) do much has been transformed, so much is different, they are living different, breathing different, feeling different, speaking different, thinking different, and better. And there is almost no need for them to have anything proved to them.

You must be in the world but not of it.

MJD, 30 Oct 2020 teleseminar

He is admitting he and CMA change everything you are if you’re with them long enough. You are changed into a person of unquestioning acceptance of MJD. Everything about you will be changed by MJD. How? Because you get proof of God’s existence:

“Our group and my Elites have seen proof of God…

30th October 2020 teleseminar
CMA Instagram 4 November 2018

Here he talks about the infections he’s supposedly able to cure:

“Every miracle of discovery I’m known for: properly curing Lyme disease and understanding the range of infections that cause it. Properly curing chronic fatigue syndrome. And fibromyalgia. Properly curing most autoimmune disorders… all of these truths are laid out there and I’m known for these truths.

28 March 2020 teleseminar

Needless to say, there’s nothing to back any of this up. What I do know is his ease of adopting the persona of a healer, and the willingness of others to go along with it.

CMA Facebook 18 March 2020

In this last clip, MJD’s answer to a question about depression brings together several of the points above:

Reads question: “… This year has been very rocky … I find myself using the processes for a month feeling at peace and clear, and another month of depression and anxiety (cough) and am unable to focus while using the tools. Is there something I can do to help balance this…?”

Response: “… A very common situation. … You’re literally reaching different levels and having periods of what we call unstressing or transformational reaction to your journey (cough). … This is the price you pay for reformation and expansion of consciousness. Things have been removed and unstressing is literally grieving over the lost negativities that have been removed out of your consciousness and it’s very normal. Those periods of difficultly go away for a while then they come back. And they become less, then one year they’ll become higher. Everyone goes through these periods and this great evidence that something is actually happening to you. Frame it in the right way. You are going through major development and it’s beneficial. What you should do is keep using the tools … Soul Repair, Relationship Development and you will smooth over those periods. But persevere, don’t go away from the processes when these difficulties happen. There are major major gems that will come to you in those difficulties, and answers and revelations and blessings.

MJD, 30 Oct 2020 teleseminar

Another very generic question and many of his audience will feel it applies to themselves. The subject is experiencing depression and MJD’s spiritual tools are no use. What MJD does in his reply is switch it around and say the evidence of the tools’ failure is actually evidence of the tools’ success. “Frame it in the right way” indeed!

He invents a term “unstressing” to label the subjects’ depressive episodes and so presents their occurence as expected evidence of the tools working. And not only that, MJD tells the subject their depression is beneficial! So, he’s effectively convincing the subject “you should be happy you’re depressed, my tools caused it”. And that gives MJD the opportunity – going against all rational thought – to recommend the subject keep using his tools regardless how bad they feel about their ineffectiveness. And to buy more tools! “Soul Repair” and “Relationship Development” processes will make the subject feel better about their depression, right? And if your depression returns even worse in a year or so, that’s OK, that’s the tools still working! Keep the faith!

Welcome to my blog of personal, independent research and criticism of the “Church of the Master Angels” and its spiritual head “Master John Douglas” AKA “Supreme Grand Master John Douglas”, the man who professes superhuman abilities of remote sensing and healing by communing with angels.

I’ve decided to begin sharing what I’ve found because there’s a lack of information and opinions about CMA except what’s put out by themselves and their followers. I hope those who find themselves entering CMA/MJD’s orbit will search, find this blog and come away with eyes wider open.

Much of this introduction will be fleshed out in subsequent posts.

“Master John Douglas”, unknown date and location

The main online hub of CMA’s operation is masterangels.org

On their About page they introduce themselves as:

A unitary, non-denominational, faith-based community Church open to all seekers of truth, cosmic awareness and soul-realization, regardless of belief, tradition, creed, or religious affiliation that promotes the selfless worship of God through the teaching of God’s Masters, Angels, and Holy Saints.

The Church, outside of its frequent congregational meetings and services, offers unique tools, products, global healing workshops and seminars throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Australia. The congregational membership of the Church has now expanded to over 25 additional countries throughout the world.

Of John Douglas we are told:

“Born in Australia, in 1971, to a family with a history of several generations of spiritual healers. John is known throughout the world as a consummate Master Healer and gifted clairvoyant with extraordinary telepathic abilities. At the age of nine, John received a complete clairvoyant activation, allowing full vision of the energetic or spiritual dimension. Higher faculties of remote scanning or sensing of the energetic realm or quantum level is also a feature of John’s holistic ability, allowing him to measure and identify various energetic frequencies within the body and surrounding spiritual realms.”

None of the above is verifiable.

I do know he has operated since at least 2006, when he wrote his one and only blog post: “I have traveled extensively to work on wealthy industrialists, heads of state, eccentric billionaires, royalty, businesspeople, working people, animals and children”.

I’ve found no evidence of this or any MJD history prior to 2006. In 2017, his Spirit Repair brand transitioned to the newly incorporated Church of the Master Angels.

A charlatan (also called a swindler or mountebank) is a person practising quackery or some similar confidence trick or deception in order to obtain money, fame or other advantages via some form of pretense or deception. Resorting to quackery, pseudoscience, or some knowingly employed bogus means of impressing people in order to swindle his victims by selling them worthless nostrums and similar goods or services that will not deliver on the promises made for them. In reported spiritual communications, a charlatan is a person who fakes evidence that a spirit is “making contact” with the medium and seekers.

MJD is enabled and supported by his worshipful cult with headquarters in a gaudy ‘chapel’ nestled in the picturesque North Carolina mountains near the town of Boone, specifically in a private gated community named Heavenly Mountain.

Chris Hartnett Instagram

The Heavenly Mountain development was built using principles of Maharishi Vastu Architecture laid out by the Indian transcendental meditation guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Such design is said to aid the occupants in connecting to a universal cosmic intelligence.

Not every follower gets to visit the Boone chapel. Visiting is a special, infrequent event. In the centre courtyard there is a pedestal on which a supersized crystal is lit by artifical lighting of different colors. Awe-struck visitors touch and hug the crystal as if conducting pure angelic energy into their minds.

MJD’s wingman, salesman and principle advocate is Heavenly Mountain resident and CMA co-founder Dr Christopher Hartnett. Hartnett was a keen follower of transcendental meditation and once bought a house in the Netherlands to live next door to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, he says.

In the 1990s Hartnett ran businesses such as Global Online and USA Global Link (sometimes called Global Link USA) in the burgeoning areas of Internet Telephony and domain name reselling. Hartnett says he met MJD in 2008 by travelling the world looking for healers to cure his debilitating medical problems. Apparently MJD was the only healer who was actually successful, judged by a team of doctors assembled by Hartnett. This is all part of CMA lore.

A rare photo of Hartnett with MJD (unknown date & location)

MJD and Hartnett like talking. Interminably. Hartnett in particular goes off on long tangents and is a frequent namedropper: never missing a chance to mention someone he’s met (or hasn’t) or relate stories from his business days.

Hartnett talks Global SELF & CMA International foundations and finding MJD. Clip from Superhero of Love podcast, 12 Sep 2019

For a supposedly well-travelled and world-renowned healer, there is a curious lack of evidence placing him anywhere besides the USA. As an example, I’m yet to find evidence of a single Australian event he’s ever held.

The earliest quoted Spirit Repair testimonials are overwhelmingly in places such as Fairfield, Iowa and Chicago, Illinois.

Fairfield is significant because it’s home to a large number of transcendental meditation adherents and it is within that community John organized workshops and group healing events years before CMA began and subsequently in CMA’s earliest days. But there’s no mention of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi or transcendental meditation on CMA’s website or materials.

Chicago is significant because it is where Hartnett worked as a commodities broker and owned a gemstone investment company. Chicago is also the home of the Global SELF Foundation which is the recipient organization of $10,000 “donations” by devotees wanting to join CMA’s coveted Elite Development Course.

MJD is described as if he is independent from CMA. Their legal disclaimers are keen to separate the two, but really they are two sides of the same coin. CMA say “Master John Douglas is a frequent speaker and lecturer for the Global SELF Foundation; The Church of the Master Angels and CMA International and its related affiliates.” But actually MJD is their only speaker and lecturer, leaving aside Hartnett in his role as MJD’s warm-up man.

A seminar with MJD, unknown location, circa 2019

Hartnett introduces MJD – “The #1 medical intuitive on the planet”. Clip from Teleseminar 21 March 2020 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhPK_8BuwQg

MJD is a man of many words, albeit interminable streams of mumbo jumbo, jargon and monotonous verbiage. He is not a man to only say something once, or use one word instead of three. I’ve noticed some of his favorite words are “literally”, “developmental” and “aggregate”. In his manner he comes across as meek, gentle and restrained. But a careful listener will realise he has a sharp mind honed for offering false assurances, dogma and pseudo-intellectualism. Convincing susceptible listeners he is the holder of sacred, secret knowledge. His mind, words, even his silence supposedly capable of tuning into an otherworldly realm of “Master Angels” and thereby channeling their blessings to us Earth-bound mortals.

MJD, 21 March 2020 teleseminar

“We have seminars where we perform healing blessings … everything from the physical level to spiritual level, the mind and emotions. A very powerful way to change your psychology and to remodel your thinking and action and behavior.

… not only do you get a shiny new body when your infection is cured, we have ways to interact with nature and the Creator in the most favorable way.

The ultimate development is that I’m able to instill and train you with capability to verify frequency and matter and truth in any particle. And this be the very powerful secret given to the Earth, it’s not for everybody.

Then you have a way of deciphering truth in your life… is that book wrong? Is that person’s opinion universally true or wrong? What is in this supplement? Is it tainted with iron or lead or is it pure? Every matter through its frequency can be discerned and we can engineer any investigation to show you what literally is the truth of matter… which is not spirituality, it’s not science, there is only one truth of matter that contains both…

We are told he is world-renowned and has an esteemed reputation for his powers. If you haven’t heard of him perhaps the “Lords Of Karma” haven’t judged you as deserving of his knowledge, or likely your friendship group has zero CMA members. And such a pity John is so camera shy, photos and videos are few and far between. Plus his online teleseminars are frequently, indeed I suspect always, audio only.

Something MJD says he can’t do? Remove skintags. He seems to mainly operate on things that can’t be seen with the naked eye. It makes no sense. But of course, something like skintags or broken bones are too easy for the sufferer to know he hasn’t cured it. But anything inside the body like cancer, lyme disease or an invisible micro-organism no-one knows exists? MJD is your guy.

“This is not some cult thing. John is the humblest person I’ve ever met. He is the perfect person”

Hartnett, 28 March 2020 teleseminar

He has a dislike for science, medicine and technology except when it suits him. He feels his arcane knowledge and superpowers are superior to actual science, looking down on doctors for their ignorance of the true nature of reality as he perceives it. And yet MJD doesn’t seek to share his “skills” with the medical community so they could study and learn. But the CMA “medical board” that verify miracles? All apparently medical doctors, though the only doctor ever named is Dr Richard Sarnat, an Elite graduate. This is no independent review board. It’s as bogus as the “peer reviewed” articles Sarnat has published.

MJD explains why his medical treatments are superior to all others. From 28 March 2020 teleseminar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq58Hu9EkPs

His is a world of “Karmic Mitigation Blessings” (KMBs), “Silent Faith Remote Healings” (SFRs) and a catalog of meditation CDs/mp3s ranging from “Prismatic Awareness” to “Astrological Repair”, each as powerless as the other. All these products are available for anyone to purchase on the CMA website. Purchasers of selected mp3s are encouraged to play them in a loop 24/7.

Notably these aren’t cheap purchases either. You could buy the entire Beatles back catalog for the price of one of these; and get more spiritual comfort too.

MJD explains what his CDs do, then talks about how proof of the existence of the soul will end “Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Apple-fed superiority”. Clip from 28 March 2020 Teleseminar

Let’s take a look at one of CMA’s core products: “Silent Faith Remote Healing”, a kind of prayer. A modern answer to the Catholic Church selling indulgences to absolve of sin and spiritual debt.

The description tells us SFRs are a generous gift from the Master Angels to believers, available 24/7 without needing to attend a workshop or teleseminar. Priced $250 a go, these SFRs must be some pretty powerful and rewarding stuff, right?

But of course, they aren’t. It stretches the bounds of credibility to say these SFR “products” have any effect whatsoever, or that anything happens at all upon their purchase. A sales order is created, money taken from purchaser, and that is surely it.

The Silent Faith Remote Healing Directed Prayers are faith-based and done on the level of silence. Once requested, the work is done by God and the Masters Angels on the subtle silent levels. There is no written or verbal interaction during or after these remote healing directed prayers.

The Silent Faith Remote Healing Directed Prayers can be ordered through this website and can be used for remediation and mitigation of a health challenge or a specific situation that is in need of Divine attention or support.

“Done on the level of silence”? I.e. you fill in the online form, pay $250 and nothing happens except you’ve sent $250 to CMA’s coffers. This ‘product’ is of the most lazy, unethical kind imaginable. We are told a SFR is for:

  • health issues
  • start of new projects
  • child birth
  • marriage
  • business deals
  • any aspect of your life or that of your loved ones where special attention from the realm of the Divine and the Master Angels is desired or required to mitigate or bless those involved

But buyer beware, you have no recourse of complaint if things still don’t go your way:

When it comes to the process of blessings from God, the Master Angels, and Divine intervention, the outcome is always unpredictable and is deeply intertwined with the depth of one’s Karma, the severity of the problem, and the deservingness of the recipient. Since these factors are completely variable with every situation and every individual, there can be no guarantees of any specific outcome from Faith-based Silent Remote Healing Directed Prayers.

“Karmic Mitigation Blessings” are the same $250 concept in different words:

Reduce the burden of one’s karmic debts … when a positive event happens in one’s life there may still be remnants of bad karma that need to be paid off before success can happen. KMB is a way to smooth this experience. This blessing is good when getting married, being accepted to a new job, and other such events.

So they’re saying whatever happens to you, good or bad, buy these “blessings”.

How generous of the angels to bestow upon believers gifts requring a $250 “donation” before they may or may not send their karmic blessings.

In the 28 March 2020 teleseminer, Hartnett says 15 KMBs were needed for a friend’s cancer. That’s $3750 total. I am sure the rank and file CMA members in similiar situations are encouraged to buy buy buy likewise. He didn’t mention if the KMBs had any effect however.

A key recurring theme in MJD’s teaching is “don’t think, just be”. I.e. don’t ask questions, don’t have doubts, instead have faith to accept his knowledge as given to you.

“Let yourself go down the road of accumulating divine truth, to quash your human negativity, your naturally doubting offensive mental capabilities, your belittling and the ego and everything like that. Just allow one divine truth to keep giving you that sweet bliss.”

MJD is saying doubting thoughts are offensive. If you doubt him you are offending him. He is saying divine truth as delivered by him is superior to human truth. He is saying ignorance is bliss.

“For the next hour and a half I’m gonna ask you to literally turn off that part of your brain that always thinks it knows best but ultimately doesn’t.”

But the biggest conceit hidden in plain site are the boilerplate legal disclaimers on almost every piece of content they produce. It’s all over masterangels.org, their social media posts, newsletters and every item of audio/video they produce:

“Please keep in mind, we are not doctors or medical professionals. We are a diverse international congregation focused on Spiritual Development. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or illness. We do not represent or warrant that any particular product or service is safe, appropriate or effective for you. If you have any health concerns, we strongly suggest consulting a qualified healthcare professional for diagnosis and treatment options.”

I’m not a legal expert but these disclaimers seem designed not for karmic mitigation but rather more earthly mitigation of CMA’s legal exposure if a purchaser takes issue their expensive non-purchase didn’t cure their cancer. CMA’s defence would be “You agreed to the disclaimer, we’re not to blame.”

No doubt any complainant would be discouraged from attending future workshops due to massive bad karma created from their negativity, or perhaps instead recommended to purchase a large number of SFRs and KMBs to cancel out their bad experience, if they’re gullible enough.

Graduates of the $10,000 Elite Development Course are a key part of CMA’s spiritual advancement structure. Really it is the Elites that can be considered the ‘members’ of the Church, the ones who have fully bought in to MJD’s teachings and way of life. No longer will you need to merely believe MJD, you can know the proof of MJD. We are told there are 400+ Elites. The supposed benefits that elevate you above the laity include:

  • Remote scanning ability of matter and energies
  • Special revelations for rapid remodelling of sensory pathways
  • Secret commands to work with the Masters for self-healing and assistance
  • Skills to kill viruses
  • Proof of God
  • A special lanyard

Yes you read that correctly, “Proof of God”.

“Our group and my elites have seen proof of God”

All that and a lanyard too!

Application for the Elite course includes some curious dietary guidelines like “no pork, no shellfish”.

By attending this 4 day course you too can begin to acquire superpowers MJD has, like detecting frequencies of bacteria and toxins in your food.

And this is merely the first stage of Elite. But not all are accepted. If your karmic balance isn’t right and are rejected you’re told to spend time (and therefore money) on “further development of maybe one more year of using the advanced techniques and being present on the tours”, continuing purchasing tools such as Prismatic Awareness then reapplying:

Just one more year and then you’ll be happy.

Hartnett mentions in 28 March 2020 teleseminar an attendee who afterwards “decided they were gonna sell this. They signed things that said they wouldn’t … it made us all feel bad. It’s not the way this knowledge is meant to be used.”

I’ve always felt a sure sign you’re in a cult is if you’re made to sign legal forms declaring not to share what you’ve learned. A sure sign the organisation are more interested in controlling access than spreading goodwill.

Did Jesus hand out non-disclosure agreement forms after his sermons and ‘miracles’? I imagine yes if Hartnett was one of his apostles:

“I’ve got some big plans for you Jesus, let’s take this thing global…”

A major question is why are no tours ever scheduled outside the USA? Not even for MJD’s home of Australia have CMA organized a single event.

In 2020 when his tours moved online and MJD became restricted like everyone else from travelling due to COVID-19 restrictions, why not do a virtual teleseminar tour outside USA? But the only tour dates are USA:

Why is there no information for non-USA residents? As I mentioned above, I have doubts he’s actually done anything outside USA ever. Remember, CMA claim to be a global organization. It’s false like everything related to MJD, aided by Hartnett.

I speculate if MJD is banned from working in Australia. Or chooses not to for tax reasons. Assuming he actually does live in Australia as claimed: there is no evidence he does. What are the rules for faith-healers and miracle workers around the world, I wonder.

Hartnett in particular is obsessed with all things “global” but he’s never gone global.

“Global Repair” is a new project from CMA started July 2020. A weekly YouTube stream of a pre-recorded MJD “guided meditation for love and healing” which includes a “Cosmic Infusion Blessing directly from the Master Angels”. The video played out is the same every broadcast but promoted as live.

This project is clearly in response to COVID-19 i.e. implying this mass meditation can heal the planet from the virus without explicity stating it. “Help universal love go viral” CMA declared. It didn’t go viral.

Thanks for reading to the end of this post. Subsequent posts will be less wide-ranging and focus on specific aspects of CMA/MJD. As best I can, I want to write about the completely fictional core beliefs and things I’ve discovered. I want to shine a light on those in the Church who create and encourage those beliefs.

I am not an easily persuaded person. I ask questions. I want to know the origin of things. I am the exact opposite of someone CMA would want to recruit.

I hope followers of MJD will ask questions about what they’re told and take some time to think about him as an outsider might. Ponder why he doesn’t want you to think with your rational brain.
